Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here, and then there’s where DIY stops making sense. You can verify power at the control box with a multimeter - should read 24V AC at the transformer secondary - and check whether the keypad lights up at all. If it’s dark, the problem is upstream: breaker, transformer, or conduit damage. That’s useful information to relay when you call.

What we don’t recommend: swapping control boards yourself. BFT boards ship unprogrammed; the motor type, travel limits, and safety inputs must be configured in sequence, and a misconfigured limit can over-travel the gate into the stop post or, on slide gates, derail the carrier. The loop detector also requires sensitivity calibration to ignore underground interference without missing actual vehicles. We’ve been called to three Concord properties this year where a board swap fixed the original symptom but created a new one - gate hitting limits hard enough to bend the arm bracket - because the soft-start ramp wasn’t set.
