Linear Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Concord Owner’s Guide
Linear keypad and intercom repair in Concord typically runs $280-$520 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a standalone keypad, a multi-tenant intercom head, or the control board behind it. We stock Linear-compatible units on our trucks and can usually complete the swap same day if the gate is stuck open or the entry system is down. Most Concord owners notice the failure first thing in the morning: the keypad lights up but doesn’t release the gate, or the intercom rings through to a dead line while visitors wait in the driveway.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Linear manufactures entry hardware across three main residential and light-commercial lines we see in Concord. The AK-11 and AK-31 keypads are the standalone units mounted on gooseneck posts near driveway gates; they’re weather-sealed but the membrane switches underneath the buttons wear out after repeated wet-season cycling. The AE-100 and AE-500 series are the telephone-entry and intercom systems common on Concord’s community gates and multi-family properties off Clayton Road and near Todos Santos Plaza. The ACP009 and ACP007 control boards sit behind both, translating keypad or intercom input into the release signal.
Identifying your unit takes about thirty seconds. The model number is stamped on a label inside the keypad housing or on the board itself, visible once you remove two to four tamper-resistant screws. If the label’s faded from sun exposure, measure the faceplate: AK-series keypads are roughly 3.5 by 5.5 inches; AE-series intercom heads are larger, typically 7 by 9 inches with a handset or speaker grille.
We carry OEM Linear replacements and select aftermarket equivalents that meet the same IP65 weather-sealing spec. The aftermarket units save roughly $40-$80 on parts, but we default to OEM on AE-series intercoms because the programming protocol for multi-tenant directory memory isn’t always compatible with third-party boards. Name what you found. Name what it costs. Name what you left behind.
Signs Your Linear Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

- Buttons register intermittently or not at all. The membrane switch layer beneath the keys has cracked from thermal cycling; Concord’s 90-degree summer days followed by 40-degree winter nights stress the adhesive bond. We replace the full keypad assembly rather than attempt a membrane patch, which fails again within months.
- Keypad lights up but gate doesn’t release. This usually points to the control board, not the keypad itself. The ACP-series board is sending 12V to the LED but failing to close the relay that signals the gate operator. We test relay output with a multimeter before quoting, so you don’t pay for a keypad you don’t need.
- Intercom connects but audio is garbled or one-way. The AE-series handsets use a two-wire communication loop that corrodes at the terminal block, especially on gates within a quarter-mile of Concord’s BART corridor where road salt and brake dust accumulate. We clean, re-terminate, and test both directions before closing the housing.
- Directory memory resets after power loss. The backup battery on the AE-500 control board has reached end of life; without it, tenant codes and call forwarding numbers vanish every time PG&E flickers. We replace the battery and reprogram from our backup photo record if we serviced the unit previously.
- Visible moisture inside the housing. The gasket has compressed or the housing was opened and resealed without proper torque on the screws. Water intrusion destroys boards in Concord’s rainy January-through-March window. We replace the gasket, dry the housing with low heat, and test for 48 hours before returning if the damage is extensive.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
| Service | Parts Range | Total Installed | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|
| AK-11 / AK-31 keypad replacement | $140-$220 | $280-$380 | 365-Day Done Right Promise |
| AE-100 / AE-500 intercom head | $180-$320 | $360-$520 | 365-Day Done Right Promise |
| ACP control board only | $120-$200 | $240-$340 | 365-Day Done Right Promise |
| Full keypad + board + reprogram | $260-$420 | $420-$620 | 365-Day Done Right Promise |
The range depends on three factors: whether we use OEM Linear or a tested aftermarket equivalent, whether the existing wiring harness is reusable or corroded, and whether the gate operator itself needs limit-switch adjustment after the new control board is installed. We hand you a written price before any work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1, and that price includes parts, labor, programming, and the documented photo record we leave with you. Under Clause 4, every visit includes photos of what we found, what we replaced, and what we set, at no additional charge.
DIY or Call Us?

There’s one safe check a Concord owner can make: verify the gate operator itself still works from the remote or manual release. If the gate moves fine but the keypad or intercom doesn’t trigger it, the problem is isolated to the entry hardware and not the motor or safety loops.
Beyond that, we don’t recommend DIY on these units. The control boards operate at 24V AC but the gate operator’s primary power is 120V, and the terminal blocks are often in the same housing. Incorrect wiring can damage the new board immediately or create a fire risk. Programming tenant directories on AE-series intercoms requires specific sequence timing; a misstep locks the unit and requires a factory reset that wipes all codes. We carry the right crimpers, the right termination tools, and the programming manual for every Linear series we’ve encountered since 2014.

FAQs
Most AK-series keypads last 8-12 years in Concord’s climate; AE-series intercoms average 10-15 years if the housing gasket is intact. The limiting factor is usually moisture intrusion during the rainy season, not button wear. If yours is past seven years and showing any symptoms, it’s worth having us inspect the seal before the board corrodes. Call (510) 726-7050 for a free estimate.
Membrane switch failure and board-level corrosion are not economically repairable; the parts are sealed units and Linear doesn’t publish component-level schematics for field repair. We replace the assembly, program it, and warranty the work for one full year. Call (510) 726-7050 and we’ll confirm whether your specific symptom points to a replaceable sub-component.
Most keypad replacements take 45-90 minutes; AE-series intercom swaps with directory reprogramming run 1.5-2.5 hours. We don’t quote same-day completion for intercom directory rebuilds if you don’t have a backup of tenant codes, but we can secure the gate and return with a pre-programmed unit the following business day. Call (510) 726-7050 to schedule.
We stock AK-11 and AK-31 keypads, AE-100 and AE-500 intercom heads, and ACP-series control boards on every Concord service vehicle. If your unit is a discontinued Linear model, we carry cross-referenced equivalents that maintain the same voltage, protocol, and mounting footprint. Call (510) 726-7050 to confirm compatibility before we dispatch.
